Louis-Paul Marin

B. Sc. A., LL.B., LL.M, Lawyer and President

Louis-Paul Marin is an engineer and a lawyer. He also completed a master degree in law, focusing on regulatory analysis and technical risks associated with the use of biotechnologies.

Working as an in-house counsel for many years at Shire BioChem Inc. (formerly, BioChem Pharma Inc.) and Alcan Aluminium Limited, Louis-Paul Marin gained an in-depth understanding of the life sciences industries. This experience has made him sensitive to the business needs of clients and in-house counsel, which allows him to provide the best possible legal services in the most efficient manner.

His practice focuses on general transactions and his expertise lies in intellectual property issues, research, development and transfer of technology, as well as regulatory affairs in relation to health products.

Louis-Paul Marin’s most recent experiences include the preparation and negotiation of intellectual property licenses, collaboration contracts, manufacturing contracts, distribution and research contracts for high technology companies, among others. Further, awareness of and compliance with regulatory requirements being a critical factor in the commercialization of medical devices, Louis-Paul Marin combines his engineering and legal skills to guide life science industries through the growing number of regulatory issues. On the regulatory side, he contributed to the certification of innovative medical devices. Amongst others, he keeps abreast of new rules governing the development, labelling, advertising and sales of medical devices in the Canadian market.

He has had the opportunity to negotiate and prepare research and cooperation agreements with universities as well as agreements pertaining to mega-projects involving federal and provincial governments as co-contracting parties.
